McManus, Salavantis Among Guest Coaches | Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Hamilton, Ontario – The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced today that Danny McManus, John Salavantis, Scott Fawcett, Guido Falbo and Custavious Patterson will join the team as guest coaches at the 2008 Ticats Training Camp presented by Nutribar.

"The experience and knowledge that our guest coaches bring to camp is sure to benefit our players and coaching staff," said head coach Charlie Taaffe. "Each of these guys will be able to give our players great tips from the years of experience while providing our coaching staff with valuable insight into the players at our camp. We even have two guys in Danny (McManus) and Coach Sal (John Salavantis), who have been involved with the Ticats organization for a number of years and who know what it takes to win in this league. We're very excited and fortunate to have all of them join our camp this year."

McManus played eight seasons with the Ticats, breaking several team passing records including career passing yards (33,841), career touchdown passes (164), career pass completions (2,368) and single season passing yards (5,334). In 1999, he enjoyed his finest season in Black and Gold, earning the CFL Most Outstanding Player award, was named both a CFL and East Division All-Star and ultimately won the Grey Cup.

Salavantis, or ‘Coach Sal’ as he is more commonly known, joins the Black and Gold’s training camp staff after six years as the team’s colour commentator on Ticats radio broadcasts. Coach Sal has almost 30 years of coaching experience, including a 10-year tenure as an assistant with the Ticats beginning in 1985 and a stint as the Cats offensive line coach for the final seven games of the 2005 season.

Fawcett brings over 20 years of coaching experience, most recently in his current capacity as associate head coach at the University of Windsor. Fawcett previously served as the Ticats special teams coordinator and receivers coach during the team’s 1999 Grey Cup championship season.

Falbo is entering his fourth season with UMass and his second as the team’s recruiting coordinator and running backs coach, after two seasons working with the Minutemen’s tight ends. Falbo was a guest coach with the Calgary Stampeders in 2007.

Patterson will begin his third season as wide receivers coach at Fordham University this fall. Patterson started at quarterback for Morgan State in 2004.
