Suitor: A Black and Golden Opportunity

TSN CFL Analyst Glen Suitor weighs in on a potential stadium in Aldershot in his latest TSN.ca column...

In football, when a mistake is made on the field it is an opportunity for the opposition. The best example of which may be when a quarterback throws an interception in his own end and gives the opponent the ball; a great field position and an opportunity to score.

Now as I have said before, I don't live in Hamilton and have been following this process from the outside looking in, but it appears now with regards to the Pan Am stadium opportunity in the GTA that city council in Hamilton has fumbled, bumbled and now thrown the interception in their own end late in the game. And that will cost them the championship, giving the ball to Burlington in scoring position with a chance to steal maybe the biggest of victories.

The Pan Am Games organizers have said from day one over two years ago that the Ticats have got to be part of the process and that they would be the principle tenants of a new stadium long after the Pan Am Games were completed.

Ticat owner Bob Young has done everything in his power to find a compromise that works in Hamilton. He has pledged his own money to the project, he has offered to add professional soccer to the proposal, he has provided upwards of 10 possible site options, he even at one point said he would put money into improving the failed West Harbour bid that cost the first mayor his job even though it had nothing to do with his business or his team, and yet the Hamilton city council at every step has dropped the ball.

Marwan Hage Teams Up With City Kidz For Xmas Toy Drive

This weekend, Hamilton Tiger-Cats offensive lineman Marwan Hage and his Hage’s Heroes community initiative will team up with City Kidz for a Christmas toy drive that will provide gifts for approximately 120 underprivileged youth.

Hage will use funds generated from the Marwan Hage Celebrity Charity Dinner and Poker Event he hosted in October to purchase toys on Friday morning before personally distributing them to each child on Saturday afternoon.

“Christmas is a time of giving and should be a time of happiness for everyone.  I am pleased to help out and provide toys to children who may not otherwise receive any," said Hage.

The seven-year CFL veteran established Hage's Heroes in 2007.  The program has welcomed over 3,000 underprivileged youth to Tiger-Cats home games, fed over 4,000 families through food drives and made numerous donations to local charities since its inception.  Last year, Hage was honoured with the 2009 Tom Pate Memorial Award for his efforts in the community.

Ticats.ca will have reaction from the toy drive later this week.
