CASEY CREEHAN Defensive Coordinator |
Casey Creehan joins the Tiger-Cats as defensive coordinator after spending two seasons with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Creehan served as linebackers coach with Winnipeg, overseeing a unit that was a part of one of the league’s stingiest defences. In 2010, the Bombers defence led the league in several categories, including fewest yards of net offence, fewest first downs and most quarterback sacks. In 2011, the Bombers reached the Grey Cup final after leading the CFL with 55 sacks while allowing a league-low 301.1 yards of offence per game.
Prior to his one-year tenure as defensive line coach at Eastern Michigan in 2009, Creehan spent one year (2008) with the Montreal Alouettes (2008) as linebackers coach and four years (2004-07) with the Calgary Stampeders as defensive line coach.
He began his coaching career as a defensive assistant at Lehigh University in 1999, helping the Mountain Hawks capture the Patriot League championship. After serving as wide receivers and tight ends coach at Clarion University and tight ends and special teams coach at Southern Illinois University in 2000, Creehan spent two seasons at Clarion as their linebackers and special teams coach, as well as the team’s strength and conditioning coach. In 2002, Creehan’s special teams blocked 12 kicks and reduced the opponents’ average kickoff return by 50%. Creehan also decreased the defensive statistical totals in every category, increased the linebackers’ production in every defensive category and coached several All-Conference linebackers.
As a player, Creehan suited up at as a linebacker Grove City College, where he was a standout defensive player and captain of the 1998 Presidents Athletic Championship team. He was named to the All-Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference team in 1998 earned All-Presidents Athletic Conference honours in 1997 and 1998. In 1998, he set Grove City’s single-season tackles record with 126 stops.
A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Creehan earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from Grove City in 1999 and completed his master’s degree in health and physical education at Emporia State University in May, 2006. Creehan’s father, Denny, served as the Ticats defensive coordinator in 2008 and is currently the athletic director at Alderson-Broaddus College.
