Dennis McPhee

Defensive Line Coach

Dennis McPhee returned to Hamilton for his third tour of duty as a Tiger-Cats assistant in 2013.  McPhee, the team’s defensive line coach, begins his 12th season with the Black and Gold this year.

McPheeMcPhee’s previous stints saw him oversee the linebackers from 1995-97, the defensive line from 1998-2001 and the defensive front from 2004-06.

Under McPhee’s watch the Ticats led the CFL in quarterback sacks in 1999, 2000 and 2004, defensive end Joe Montford was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player three times, and six players under his direction earned spots on the CFL All-Star team.

McPhee brings plenty of Canadian football experience to the Tiger-Cats staff.  He spent the 2012 season as the defensive coordinator at Western following a five-year stint as the head coach at Waterloo.  He has also served as head coach of St. Francis Xavier in addition to assistant coaching positions at McMaster, Guelph and St. FX.    He was named the Atlantic conference’s coach of the year with St. FX in 2002.

During his playing career, McPhee suited up with the Toronto Argonauts and Edmonton Eskimos after finishing his university career at Saint Mary’s.  He spent eight years in the Northern Football Conference and was inducted into the NFC’s Hall of Fame in 1993.

Dennis is married to Joanne Evans, a former Saint Mary's Athlete of the Year. The couple has two sons, Macklin and Caelan, and a daughter, Catherine (Katie).
