JOE HAGINS

DEFENSIVE ASSISTANT / SAFETIES

Joe Hagins will begin his CFL coaching career in the same city where his CFL playing career began, serving as the Tiger-Cats Defensive Assistant/Safeties in 2009.

Prior to joining the Ticats staff, Hagins spent the last three years at the University of Guelph, working with the wide receivers for two seasons (2006-07) and with the Gryphons’ outside linebackers in 2008. He also worked closely with Guelph’s special teams unit for all three seasons.

Following his CFL playing career, Hagins began coaching with the Ontario Varsity Football League’s Steel City Ironmen and Cathedral High School. He served as defensive coordinator from 2001 to 2005 with each team and also assisted with special teams.

Hagins played three seasons as an outside linebacker with the Ticats, helping the Black and Gold capture their most recent Grey Cup in 1999. After recording 71 defensive tackles in two seasons as a Ticat, Hagins retired after sitting out the 2000 season with a shoulder injury.

Prior to joining the CFL, Hagins enjoyed a four-year collegiate career at Purdue, where he played as a linebacker, safety, running back and kick returner.
