Hage's Heroes Christmas Toy Drive

Hamilton Tiger-Cats offensive lineman Marwan Hage teamed up with City Kidz for a Christmas Toy Drive that provided gifts to approximately 120 underprivileged youth. Hage used the funds generated from the Marwan Hage Celebrity Charity Dinner and Poker Event he hosted in October to purchase toys from Toys "R" Us. After wrapping each toy at the City Kidz Toy Depot, Hage personally delivered them to each child on December 18, 2010.

BeFit Launch

January 19 marked the launch date of the Ticats BeFit community program for 2011 at Adelaide Hoodless Elementary School. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats, Marchese Health Care, and Hamilton Partners in Nutrition teamed up to bring back this program for a second year after a very successful first year. The BeFit program focuses on promoting healthy active lifestyles to the youth in Hamilton. For 2011 the program hopes to reach over 2,000 students in 50 schools.

Through the BeFit program, Ticats players will visit local schools to help serve a nutritious breakfast or snack and discuss the importance of healthy eating and exercise. Ticats players available for the kick-off included: Agustine Barrenechea, Sandro DeAngelis, Jerome Dennis, Peter Dyakowski, and Ryan Hinds.

Sandro's Kicks for Kids

On Saturday, January 29, Hamilton Tiger-Cats kicker Sandro DeAngelis, along with Carmen's and the United Way, purchased Reebok footwear for 150 underprivileged Hamilton youth. This initiative was a part of the "Kicks for Kids" community program. The program would like to thank Hillfield Strathallan College for providing transportation as well as the Reebok Outlet Store in Mississauga for supporting the success of this program.

 

Kids Help Phone Bowlathon

On Saturday, February 12, Sandro DeAngelis and Peter Dyakowski attended the Kids Help Phone Bowlathon to help raise funds for the organization.

Cops & Cats Press Conference

The Cops, Cats, and Caring Students community program kicked off on Wednesday, March 2 at Saltfleet District High School. Representatives in attendance included: Police Services Board Chairman Nancy DiGregorio, Police Chief Glenn De Caire, Ron Foxcroft, Vice President Development of the McMaster Children's Hospital and McMaster University Medical Centre Jennifer Laughton, President and CEO of St. Joseph's Healthcare Foundation Sera Filice-Armenio, Hamilton Tiger-Cats GM Bob O'Billovich, and Hamilton Tiger-Cats players Jason Shivers and Dave Stala.

Since 2001 Cops and Cats have played basketball games against local Hamilton Secondary Schools in an effort to raise money for hospital charities. In 2010, the program raised over $20,000 for McMaster Children's Hospital and St. Joseph's Healthcare.

Touchdown Dinner & Awards

Tuesday, April 12 marked the first ever Touchdown Dinner & Awards at Carmen's Banquet Hall in Hamilton. This new initiative was established to help support the development of grassroots football in Hamilton. Funds raised from this dinner were allocated to ensure that youth of ages have to opportunity to participate in the game of football regardless of financial constraints.

The evening was hosted by the CFL on TSN Football Panel. Broadcaster Dave Randorf, former CFL receiver Jock Climie, Canadian Football Hall of Fame quarterback Matt Dunigan and the CFL's all-time leading receiver Milt Stegall served as the evening's MCs and keynote speakers.

Slices for Smiles

Agustin Barrenechea and Peter Dyakowski helped promote the Pizza Pizza Slices for Smiles campaign on April 26. The two Ticats served pizza and invited customers to make donation by purchasing a smile-shaped pizza. A portion of the proceeds from this campaign was donated to the Children's Miracle Network.

Tim Hortons Camp Day

On Wednesday, June 1 Tiger-Cats players traveled to 16 Tim Hortons locations in support of Camp Day. Tim Hortons Camp Day is an annual fundraising campaign when Tim Hortons Restaurant Owners across Canada and the United States donate every penny from coffee sales to the Tim Horton Children's Foundation that helps to send underprivileged children to camp.
