Tiger-Cats High School Mentorship Program Powered By Stelco Returns For The 2024 High School Football Season

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Stelco have teamed up again this season for the Tiger-Cats High School Mentorship Program, with $10,000 in bursaries being awarded to local student athletes.

The program will see Tiger-Cats players visit local high school football teams for two practice sessions and one game over the course of the 2024 season. Ticats players will provide student-athletes with guidance on leadership and character development while also supporting coaches with drills and activities during practice.

“The Tiger-Cats High School Mentorship Program is a key part of our organization’s efforts to give back to our local community and provide student athletes with access to guidance, encouragement and skill development throughout the football season. We also want to give a heartfelt thank you to Stelco for providing the bursaries for these student athletes and to our players for jumping at the opportunity to get involved in the program,” said Courtney Stephen, Senior Director of Marketing & Community Partnerships with Hamilton Sports Group.

As part of the program, Stelco will provide five graduating student athletes who participate in the Tiger-Cats High School Mentorship Program with a $2,000 bursary for their postsecondary education. Scholarships include the Chuck Ealey Black & Gold Excellence Award, which is awarded to black student-athletes that exemplify the undefeated spirit of Chuck Ealey and the Made in the Hammer Award which recognizes student athletes that embody Hamilton Sports Group and Stelco’s values of commitment, leadership, community service, sportsmanship and a Heart of Steel.

“As a business with a vested interest in the future of Hamilton, Stelco is proud to be supporting the future leaders of our community through our continued support of the Tiger-Cats High School Mentorship Program,” said Trevor Harris, Vice President of Corporate Affairs for Stelco. “This initiative not only provides valuable guidance and skill development for student athletes but also strengthens our community by fostering leadership and character. We’re proud to be a part of this program and look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on the lives of these young athletes as they pursue their post-secondary education.”

To qualify, student athletes must meet all eligibility requirements. Nominations can be submitted by players who participate in the High School Mentorship Program and winners will be recognized at the Ticats Night of Champions dinner at Tim Hortons Field.
