Hamilton Sports Group Launches Foundation To Empower Local Youth Through Sport

The Hamilton Sports Group, owners and operators of the Canadian Football League’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Canadian Premier League’s Forge FC, announced today the official launch of the Hamilton Sports Group Foundation (HSGF). This new, non-profit charitable organization will further promote Hamilton Sport Group’s goal to foster healthy, active lifestyles and support mental well-being among youth in our community.

The foundation will focus on the enhancement of local minor sports programs, with the foundation’s initiatives aiming to fund capital projects and remove financial barriers to create a supportive environment where children can thrive both on and off the field.

“We believe that sports have the power to teach invaluable life skills, instill confidence, and promote a healthy lifestyle and mental well-being from a young age. With the launch of the Foundation and the subsequent investment in local sports, we aim to empower local youth to reach their full potential, on the field and in life,” said Hamilton Sports Group President and Chief Operating Officer Matt Afinec.

For years, the Hamilton Sports Group has been focused on encouraging local youth to live healthy, active lifestyles through initiatives like the Tiger-Cats FirstOntario BeFit and Forge FC’s Fit with Forge presented by Egg Farmers of Ontario. These programs have allowed thousands of students to interact with professional athletes while learning about the benefits of health and fitness in an exciting, engaging manner.

The launch of the HSGF builds upon the legacy of the Hamilton Tiger-Cat Trust, a long-standing organization dedicated to supporting amateur football in Hamilton. This new foundation expands that vision to encompass a broader range of sports and activities, reflecting the diverse interests of Hamilton’s youth and echoing the commitment to community engagement demonstrated by the Tiger-Cats and Forge FC. The HSGF will also be collaborating with existing groups and programs in the Hamilton region to maximize the foundation’s impact.

Glenn Gibson, chairman of the board for the HSGF, remarked, “The foundation recognizes the profound impact sports can have on young lives. We strive to ensure that every young person in Hamilton has the chance to experience the transformative benefits of sport.”
