Last season the Tiger-Cats revived the annual Black and Gold Game, the intrasquad scrimmage which features a lot more physical play than regular practices. But it was held at the training camp facility at McMaster University’s Ron Joyce Stadium.
It’s back this year and will go Sunday night at 7 p.m. and is being dubbed the Black & Gold Kickoff. A Season Ticket Holder-exclusive event, they will be the first to see the newest in Black and Gold and witness the scrimmage.
It’s being held at Hamilton Stadium, not McMaster, so that players can become accustomed to their surroundings and the playing surface where they’ll train, and play home games, all year. That will be especially important for the many new players who will be new to the team. Unlike standard practices, the Black & Gold Kickoff promises a more physical, competitive environment as players vie for roster spots and establish early-season momentum.
With the lights on, the stands filled, and the stakes rising, the Tiger-Cats are set to give fans an early taste of what’s to come this season—right in the heart of TigerTown.
