Making his first start since August 2024, quarterback Jake Dolegala got the nod in place of the injured Bo Levi Mitchell. Dolegala completed 17 of 30 passes for 122 yards, while Tre Ford entered in the fourth quarter and finished 5-of-6 for 47 yards.
Hamilton’s defence battled throughout the night, forcing two second-half interceptions of Saskatchewan quarterback Trevor Harris to keep the Tiger-Cats within striking distance. However, the offence was unable to capitalize as the Roughriders’ defence limited Hamilton to two Marc Liegghio field goals through the opening three quarters.
After a first quarter that ended tied 1-1, Saskatchewan opened the scoring with an Alex Hale field goal before Hamilton answered with a 42-yard field goal from Liegghio. Harris connected with Samuel Emilus for a 10-yard touchdown late in the second quarter, but Liegghio’s second field goal before halftime cut the deficit to 11-7.
Myron Mitchell provided a spark for the Tiger-Cats with a 69-yard punt return that set up Hamilton’s second scoring drive of the night.
The Roughriders extended their lead midway through the third quarter when Harris found Kian Schaffer-Baker for an 18-yard touchdown. Hamilton generated opportunities after interceptions by the defence, but Saskatchewan’s defence came up with key stops to preserve the advantage.
The home side pulled away in the fourth quarter as Tommy Stevens added a pair of rushing touchdowns and Josh Woods sealed the outcome with a 107-yard interception return touchdown.
Defensively, the Tiger-Cats’ two takeaways highlighted an otherwise difficult night against a Saskatchewan team that improved to 4-1.
The Tiger-Cats return home next Saturday, July 18, when they host the Toronto Argonauts at Hamilton Stadium. Hamilton has won five of its last six meetings with its East Division rival.
