Alex Russell was named Director of Scouting of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on January 10, 2025.
Russell spent the 2024 CFL season with the Ottawa REDBLACKS, where he served as Assistant Director of U.S. Scouting. Before that, he worked with the Toronto Argonauts for five seasons (2019-23) in roles including Coordinator of Football Operations (2019-20), Manager of Football Operations (2021), and Director of Football Operations and National Scout (2022-24). During his time with the Argos, Russell managed salary cap tracking, contracts, scouting, and player evaluations, culminating in his first Grey Cup championship.
Returning to the Tiger-Cats marks a homecoming for Russell, who began his CFL career with Hamilton as Coordinator of Football Administration in 2016 before transitioning to Coordinator of Football Operations (2016-18). He initially joined the league by volunteering at the 2013 CFL Combine and working in operations at Tim Hortons Field. Between CFL roles, Russell contributed to his alma mater, Western University, as Manager of Operations and Social Media Coordinator for the men’s varsity basketball team.
The Ancaster, Ontario native holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the Ivey Business School at Western University, where he was also a member of the varsity cross-country team.
