Chris Jones

Senior Defensive Assistant

Chris Jones was named Senior Defensive Assistant of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on August 19, 2024.

Jones brings over 20 years of CFL coaching experience to the Tiger-Cats, including eight seasons of Head Coaching experience with the Edmonton Elks (2021-24, 14-15) and Saskatchewan Roughriders (2016-18). As a Head Coach, he helped lead Edmonton to a Grey Cup in 2015 with a 26-20 victory over the Ottawa Redblacks. He was also named the recipient of the Annis Stukus trophy in 2018 as the CFL’s Coach of the Year while at the helm of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Following his tenure with the Roughriders, Jones spent one season in the National Football League, serving as a Defensive Assistant Coach with the Cleveland Browns (2019).

Jones is a four-time Grey Cup Champion (2002, ’08, ’12, ’15) and his additional coaching experience includes Defensive Consultant with the Toronto Argonauts (2021), Defensive Coordinator, Assistant Head Coach and Assistant General Manage with the Toronto Argonauts (2012-13), Defensive Coordinator, Assistant Head Coach and Assistant Director of Player Personal with the Calgary Stampeders (2011), Defensive Coordinator with the Calgary Stampeders (2008-10) and Montreal Alouettes (2003-07) and Defensive Line Coach with the Montreal Alouettes (2002).

Prior to heading north of the border, Jones broke into the NCAA coaching ranks serving as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Tennessee Tech (1995-96) while also holding the same title at the University of Alabama (1997). Jones also served as a defensive line coach at UT Martin (1998) before taking the defensive line coach job at Tennessee Tech (1999-01).
