JASON PHILLIPS
Wide Receivers Coach
Jason Phillips was named Wide Receivers Coach of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on February 7, 2022.
Phillips comes to the Tiger-Cats with over two decades of coaching experience including 19 years at the NCAA div. I level, and two years professionally in The Spring Football League (1999-2000).
Most recently he spent one season on coach Deion Sanders’ staff, serving as the Co-Offensive Coordinator and Wide Receivers Coach at Jackson State University in 2021. Phillips’ vast NCAA coaching experience includes stops at the University of Houston (2001, 2003-06, 2008-11), Texas State (2002), Baylor (2007), Southern Methodist University (2012-14), Kansas (2016), Oregon State (2017) and Utah State (2019-20).
The 5-7, 177-pound wide receiver was selected by the Detroit Lions in the 10th round (253rd overall) of the 1989 National Football League Draft and also spent time with the Atlanta Falcons (1991-94) where his Head Coach was former Tiger-Cats’ Defensive Coordinator Jerry Glanville and his Offensive Coordinator was former Tiger-Cats Head Coach June Jones.
Phillips made the move north of the border in 1995 signing with the Canadian Football League’s Birmingham Barracudas and was named to the South All-Star Team before joining the Hamilton Tiger-Cats for the 1996 season posting 136 receptions for 2,029 yards and 16 touchdowns over two seasons.
