2 – Two of the Ticats’ nine selections were acquired in trades with other CFL teams. The 18th overall pick was acquired in a trade with the Saskatchewan Roughriders that saw Hamilton give up defensive end Brandon Boudreaux. In the same trade, the Ticats acquired the 24th overall pick in last year’s draft, which they subsequently moved to Montreal. The 39th overall pick was acquired this off-season in a trade that sent offensive guard Tim O’Neill to the BC Lions.
40 – Of last year’s 64 CFL Draft picks, 40 played at least one game in the CFL during the 2015 season. The Tiger-Cats selected six players in last year’s draft, four of whom (Jay Langa, Ron Omara, Byron Archambault, and Everett Ellefsen) combined to play in 39 total games last season.
1st – The Tiger-Cats did not have a first-round pick in last year’s draft, after moving the pick to Montreal in exchange for offensive guard Ryan Bomben. If they choose to keep this year’s first round selection, it will be just their fourth first-round pick of the last seven CFL drafts. All three of the team’s former first round picks are still on the Ticats’ roster to date.
1953 – Hamilton was one of just four teams to participate in the first ever CFL Draft, joining the remaining three East Division clubs (Montreal, Ottawa, and Toronto) for the inaugural event.
17 – This year’s class of draft-eligible college students includes 17 who list Hamilton or Ancaster as their hometown.
12 – Newly-named Tiger-Cats offensive coordinator Stefan Ptaszek has coached 12 of this year’s draft-eligible students. In the last fifteen years of the draft, 26 McMaster players have been selected by CFL clubs.
