MNP By The Numbers: Week 1 vs. Toronto

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats crashed the party in Toronto with a 42-20 win against the Argonauts. Ticats.ca’s Ethan Ready took some time to look beyond the box score and dig deep into the stats sheet for this week’s edition of the MNP By The Numbers.
54:57 – The Ticats got on the board early and didn’t let up. After the Argonauts surrendered a safety to open the scoring, the Ticats would lead for the next 54-minutes and 57-seconds.
5 – Ticats quarterback, Jeremiah Masoli was tremendous at distributing the football last night against the Argonauts. The Ticats receivers also did an excellent job at finding the sticks as five Ticats pass catchers averaged over ten yards or higher per catch.
40 – Andy Fantuz scored the first touchdown of the 2016 Ticats season. Excitement and all, Fantuz stayed humble with his celebration and acted like he’s been there before. That’s because he has, 39 times before to be exact. Fantuz’s major marked his 40th career touchdown grab.mnp-v2
– Six seemed to be the Ticats lucky number against the Argos. The Ticats defence finished the game with six pass knockdowns as well as six quarterback sacks. Sporting the number six, Brett Maher nailed all of his field goal attempts including a booming 50-yarder.
2,613 – With the total movement of the ball during yesterday’s game at the Argos’ new home at BMO, the total yardage surpassed the straight-line distance between the Argos old home at the Rogers Centre and their new dock at BMO Field.
21 – The jersey number of the most dominate defensive player on the field last night. Reigning East Division Defensive Player of the Year, Simoni Lawrence would finish the game tied for the team lead in tackles with seven to go along with his two sacks, a fumble recovery and a pick six.
98 – The number of net yards the Ticats had over the Argos with only two additional plays on offence than their rival. The Tiger-Cats would finish the game with 356 yards on offence.
1989 – The 42-20 win wasn’t the first time the Ticats spoiled a housewarming party. On July 12, 1989, the Argonauts went man over board as Hamilton defeated them 24-15 in their first game held at the Skydome.
125.7 – Jeremiah Masoli’s performance against the Argonauts marked the second time out of three career starts that he surpassed the 100.00 pass efficiency mark. Masoli had a 125.7 efficiency rating to cap off a night where he went 27-of-37 passing with three touchdowns.
409 – Brett Maher’s 409 yards on kickoffs would have been enough to stretch from the southern most tip of the Argos former home at Exhibition Stadium to the Northwest corner of BMO Field.
