MNP By The Numbers: Emanuel Davis

In this week’s MNP By The Numbers, we take a look at Ticats’ defensive back Emanuel Davis. In Week 13 against the Alouettes, Davis was named one of Shaw CFL’s Top Performers of the Week alongside teammate Larry Dean.
Following Simoni Lawrence’s interception return touchdown in Week 1 against the Toronto Argonauts, the Ticats’ defence wouldn’t find themselves coming down with an interception despite their dominant defensive play until Week 8 against the BC Lions.

It would be number twenty for the Black and Gold hauling in the interception at BC Place Stadium. Since then, Emanuel Davis has been stepping into passing lanes and snagging passes off of CFL quarterbacks.
The fourth-year defensive playmaker has eyed in nine interceptions since 2015. However, perhaps the more stunning statistic to his name is the fact that 44% of the time Davis is returning interceptions to the house for scores. The former East Carolina Pirate has returned four interceptions for touchdowns during his career, including a 55-yard pick-six on Labour Day against the Argos.
Davis ranks second in the league in interception return yardage with 163 yards. His longest being 74 yards in Week 8’s matchup against the Lions in Vancouver.
In 2016, Davis has tallied 38 tackles and leads the Ticats’ defence with six pass knockdowns. He has also recovered two fumbles, both of which came after Ticats’ linebacker Larry Dean forced both in last weeks 20-17 win over Montreal.
