Tiger-cats Sign 10 International Players

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced Friday the football club has signed 10 international players, including defensive end Lorenzo Mauldin (pictured), defensive backs Demontre Hurst, Tevin Mitchel, James Allen and Maurice Carnell, defensive tackle David Dean, offensive linemen Darrell Williams and Christian Harris, quarterback Hayden Moore and wide receiver Marcus Tucker.
Mauldin, 26, appeared in 33 games with three starts for the National Football League’s New York Jets over two seasons (2015-16), registering 20 tackles, 6.5 sacks, two passes defended, one interception and one forced fumble. The 6-4, 259-pound native of Sacramento, California was originally selected by the Jets in the third round, 82nd overall, in the 2015 NFL Draft. Prior to turning pro, he appeared in 47 games over four seasons (2011-14) at the University of Louisville at both outside linebacker and defensive end.
Hurst, 28, played in 32 NFL games with four starts over three seasons (2014-16) with the Chicago Bears, recording 56 tackles, two interceptions, one forced fumble and three passes defended. The 5-10, 183-pound native of Lancaster, Texas most recently spent time with the Tennessee Titans (2017-18). Prior to signing in the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2013, Hurst made 53 appearances with 40 starts from 2009 to 2012 at the University of Oklahoma.
Mitchel, 26, spent the past two seasons (2017-18) with the NFL’s Oakland Raiders on the team’s practice roster. The 6-0, 190-pound native of Little Rock, Arkansas was originally selected by the Washington Redskins in the sixth-round, 182nd overall, in the 2015 NFL Draft. From 2015 to 2017, the University of Arkansas product served time on the Indianapolis Colts’ practice squad prior to signing with the Raiders.
Allen, 22, split his collegiate career at the University of Massachusetts (2015-16) and Charleston Southern University (2017-18). In 20 games with the Charleston Southern Buccaneers, the 5-8, 155-pound native of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida registered 32 tackles, 13 pass breakups, six interceptions for 208 yards – three of which he returned for touchdowns – and added 18 kickoff returns for 342 yards and a touchdown.
Carnell, 24, played 24 games over two seasons (2016-17) at the University of North Alabama, recording 64 tackles, six interceptions and 20 pass breakups. The San Diego, California native spent two seasons at Grossmont College (2014-15) in California prior to his transfer to UNA. Carnell was named first-team All-Conference in 2014 and second-team All-Conference in 2015, as well as being voted Best Defensive Player during his time as a Griffin.
Dean, 26, spent time with the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals in 2016 and 2017 after signing as an undrafted free agent. The 6-1, 290-pound native of Virginia Beach, Virginia spent four seasons (2012-15) at the University of Virginia playing in 47 games. He posted 141 tackles, 25.5 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, one interception returned for a three-yard touchdown and seven pass break-ups in his career with the Cavaliers.
Williams, 25, appeared in 22 games, including one start at right tackle, over two seasons (2015-17) with the St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams. The 6-6, 310-pound native of Kingston, Jamaica attended the University of South Florida for four seasons (2011-14). As a Bull, Williams played in 42 games and started 29 at left tackle, including starting all 12 games in both his Junior and Senior seasons.
Harris, 23, made 32 appearances with 11 starts at left tackle for Duke University over four seasons (2015-18). The 6-6, 310-pound native of Suwanee, Georgia helped the Blue Devils to three bowl victories during his time on their offensive line.
Moore, 23, appeared in 36 games over four seasons (2015-18) at the University of Cincinnati, completing 545-of-955 passing attempts (57%) for 6,518 yards, 42 touchdowns and 28 interceptions. The 6-3, 215-pound native of Clay, Alabama added 225 rushing attempts for 503 yards and 10 rushing touchdowns during his time with the Bearcats.
Tucker, 26, spent two seasons (2016-18) with the Pittsburgh Steelers as a member of their practice squad. The 5-10, 190-pound native of Flint, Michigan played 32 games over three seasons (2013-15) at Northern Michigan University, registering 168 receptions for 2,330 yards and 20 receiving touchdowns, while adding 63 kick returns for 1,618 yards for the Wildcats.
